Cannes is located in southern France on the Riviera. It was a fishing and agricultural village up to 19th century. It is famous for its good climate, luxurious hotels, beautiful beaches and myriads of famous celebrities.

The name of the city is derived from the plant of the same name which is generally found around the foot of the town’s fortress. Before the arrival of Greeks and Romans, it was a celto-ligurian port. At the beginning of the second century, ramparts and watchtowers were built to prepare for attacks from the pirates and Saracens.

Commandery of the Knights, a magnificient castle is situated at the opposite coast of Cannes at the Island of Honorat. The best time to visit Cannes is during the late spring or early summer. The currency of the Cannes is Euro and the official language is French.

It is one of the historic cities conserving its distinctive character in between the modern city and sea resort. It covers the area of around 8 sq. miles with a population around 70,000.
